French shipyard Socarenam Bags Polish Coast Guard Ship deal
Belgian Navy’s Coastal Patrol Vessel BNS Pollux (P902)

Poland is poised to acquire new 60-meter coast guard ships from French Socarenem company to replace their ageing SKS-40 boats.

European Border and Coast Guard Agency, also known as Frontex, has granted €22 million for the purchase of the ships, reports LA Tribune.

A formal contract has not been signed because local shipbuilders are said to be unhappy with the Coast Guard’s decision to acquire French boats.

Once inked, the deal will be the second export order for patrol boats won by Socarenem. In 2013, the Belgian Navy bought two coastal patrol vessels for €27 million.
