Russia’s Rubin Central Design Bureau for Marine Engineering has completed research on a robotized system capable of simulating nuclear and non-nuclear submarines.
“Research into ‘Surrogat’ has been completed. We have shared the results with the defense ministry,” Igor Vilnit, CEO of Rubin, was quoted as saying by TASS Wednesday.
The system has a modular design that allows for reconfiguring the vessel to perform different functions. It can carry out mapping and reconnaissance.
Powered by a Lithium-ion battery, the crewless mini-submarine is capable of simulating the maneuvers of an enemy submarine for 15-16 hours. It has a displacement of 40 tonnes, endurance of 600 miles at a speed of 5kts, maximum speed of 24kts and submergence depth of 600m.
