Russia’s Marker robot has concluded an experiment to patrol the Vostochny spaceport in the Russian Far East.
The vision module enabled the robot to move completely autonomously along the patrol route, the press office of Russia’s Advanced Research Fund was quoted as saying by TASS on Thursday.
The experiment to integrate the Marker robot into the Vostochny spaceport’s security system kicked off on October 8. The experiment involved the wheeled Marker robotic platform supplied with a multi-purpose optoelectronic module. The robotic vehicle controlled the state of the spaceport’s electric power lines and utilities and monitored the integrity of the compound’s perimeter.
"The robot moved along the designated route in a fully autonomous mode due to its intelligent machine vision system. The Marker autonomously bypassed obstacles arising on its way," the Fund said.
The robotic vehicle was furnished with a hybrid propulsion system that allowed for its autonomous operation for up to three days, it added.
The Marker experimental robotic platform has been developed as part of a joint project of the Advanced Research Fund and the Android Technics Research and Production Association that kicked off in 2018. The project aims to develop and hold large-scale tests of ground robotics and basic robotic elements.
