Pakistan Navy Starts Constructing Hangor-Class Submarine
Steel cutting ceremony of fifth Hangor-class submarine for Pak Navy

The Pakistan Navy said steel cutting ceremony of first locally built Hangor-class submarine 5 was held at the Karachi shipyard on Thursday.

It is the fifth Hangor submarine being built for the Navy overall.

In 2016, China and Pakistan reached an agreement estimated to be worth around $4-5 billion on the construction of eight non-nuclear submarines. The contract involved construction of the first four submarines in China and the remaining units at the Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works (KSEW).

The Pakistan Navy also celebrated the golden jubilee of Hangor Day, reminiscent of the incident when its submarine Hangor destroyed Indian Navy’s Khukri, an anti-submarine frigate during the 1971 war.
