The Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) has bombed the Ukrainian the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU)'s 72nd main center in Kiev which it claims is responsible for a series of cyber-attacks on Russian institutions and civilians during the past few days.
"In order to prevent informational attacks on Russia, technological objects of Security Service of Ukraine and the 72nd Center of Informational and Psychological Operations in Kiev were hit with precision weapons," Russian MoD spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov announced Wednesday.
Residential buildings in the neighbourhood of the target were not damaged, he asserted.
The Russian MoD said that the number of information attacks from Ukraine has increased several times over the last few days. The targets are state institutions of Russia. Attacks include denial of service of the websites of state-owned agencies and the spread of fake news and images regarding the current operations in Ukraine.
In addition, phone calls to ordinary citizens of the Russian Federation are being regularly made during which they are threatend with physical elimination, and the destruction of social infrastructure facilities such as schools, kindergartens and railway stations.
"Information attacks on Russia are carried out by the 72nd main center of information and psychological operations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine together with the cyber operations units of the SBU, using hardware and software systems and communication facilities in Kiev," the MoD said.
Earlier an anomymous hacking group said it had taken down more than 300 Russian government, state media and bank websites on February 26.
