The Israel Defense Force (IDF) has signed an order valued NIS 100 million ($29 million) with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) for hundreds of armed SUVs.
IAI will manufacture the Z-MAG and ZD vehicles at the company’s new production line in Beersheba. The vehicles are intended for the missions of the special units in the IDF. IAI is cooperating in the production of the vehicles with Ido Cohen and the American company TAG.
The new commando vehicles have exceptional offense capability in all terrain descriptions. They are capable of carrying fighters and equipment weighing 1.5-2.5 tons (depending on the type of vehicle), in a variety of missions, including supplying and evacuating the wounded. The vehicles will be based, among other things, on civilian assemblies, which will ensure high reliability and relatively inexpensive operation.
