German Military Aid to Ukraine will Cover Stingers, MiG-29 Spare Parts & Armored Vehicles

Germany’s recently announced military aid to Ukraine will cover Stinger missiles, MiG-29 spare parts, armored vehicles and reconnaissance drones among others.

It includes deliveries from Bundeswehr stocks as well as deliveries by industry financed from funds from the Federal Government's upgrading initiative. As part of the 2022 budget process, the funds for the upgrading initiative were increased to a total of €2 billion for 2022.

Ukrainians will receive 3,000 Panzerfaust 3 cartridges plus 900 grips 14,900 anti-tank mines, 500 STINGER anti-aircraft missile, 2700 STRELA flying fists, 7 Panzerhaubitzen 2000 (PzH 2000) self-propelled howitzers including adaptation, training and spare parts (joint project with the Netherlands), 21.8 million rounds of handgun ammunition, 50 bunker fists, 100 MG 3 machine guns with 500 spare barrels and bolts, 100,000 hand grenades, 5300 explosive charges, 350,000 detonators, 10,500 rounds of 155mm artillery ammunition, 14 anti-drone sensors and jammers, 28,000 combat helmets, 15 pallets of clothing, 280 motor vehicles, 353 night vision goggles, 4 electronic anti-drone devices, MiG-29 spare parts, 30 armored vehicles, 53,000 rounds of anti-aircraft ammunition, 10 (+10 optional) autonomous surface drones, 43 Recon drones, 8 electronic anti-drone devices and more.

Ukraine has reportedly also signed a contract with the German company Diehl Defense for the purchase of IRIS-T SL anti-aircraft missile systems that can hit targets at a distance of up to 40km. Now it was announced that the air defense system would be in the IRIS-T SLM modification, i.e. medium range. According to Andrii Melnyk, Former Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany, the value of the deal is €178 million, and the German government will allocate the money for this purchase.
