Germany will reportedly handover 15 Gepard anti-aircraft tanks to Ukraine in July, to protect the country's "critical infrastructure" from Russian attacks.

Included with the arms delivery will be training support by the German military and the provision of nearly 60,000 rounds of ammunition, Germany's dpa news agency reported.

The announcement came after a meeting Friday between German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht and her Ukrainian counterpart Olexii Resnikov.

Germany also pledged seven self-propelled howitzers to Kyiv and has started training Ukrainian troops on these guns.

The Gepard is an all-weather tank manufactured by KMW, effective against both ground and air targets. The tank has a search radar with a range of up to 15 kilometers and can hit targets at a distance of 6,000 meters. It has an engine power of 830 horsepower with a fuel range of 550 kilometers for ground combat. The anti-aircraft duty is handled by two 35 mm guns. It can be used to defend against fighter planes, helicopters, remotely guided missiles, rockets, and also modern drones.
