Ukraine has received first four Zuzana 2 self-propelled artillery howitzers from Slovakia.
“Slovakia helping to protect innocent Ukrainian lives! Happy to confirm, that first 4 Zuzana howitzers are in the hands of Ukrainian armed forces ready to be deployed in defense against the Russian aggressors,” Jaroslav Naď, Minister of Defense of Slovakia, tweeted August 13.
The two parties signed a contract for the supply of eight Zuzana units in June.
The delivery of Zuzana 2 added to the Ukrainian army’s arsenal of 155mm artillery systems together with the M109, CAESAR, KRAB, M777, FH-70, and Pazerhaubitze 2000.
Zuzana 155 mm Gun Howitzer is a Slovak artillery system with a 45-caliber gun and automatic loader for loading of both projectile and charge. It is an evolution of the 152mm SpGH DANA self-propelled howitzer.
Zuzana 2 is capable of shooting at a maximum distance of up to 40 km because of its 52-caliber length barrel. The turret is capable of turning 360 degrees, and due to the automated system, the number of crew members is reduced from 4 to 3. The howitzer also has a loading mechanism that allows firing in the MRSI mode – several shells can hit the target at the same time.
