Ukraine will soon receive a Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 combat drone with the money raised by Latvian citizens.
The initiative to collect €5 million for a unit of the drone was released on fundraising platform Ziedot.lv on August 16. Similar campaigns have been carried out in Canada, Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania and Norway. In one day, Latvians have managed to raise €344,600.
According to mil.in.ua, Latvia is one of the countries that provided the most significant assistance to Ukraine if comparing the aid volume with the country’s GDP. The country has provided weapons and individual equipment, unmanned aerial vehicles, dry rations, ammunition, anti-tank weapons, and man-portable air-defense systems worth more than €200 million.
Latvia has also supplied Ukraine’s Air Force with two Mi-17 and two Mi-2 helicopters. Before delivery, the aircraft were painted, and one of the Mi-17s was overhauled.
