Ukrainians have managed to capture the first intact T-62 tank from Russia.
A photograph with trophy equipment was published on Telegram by Ukrainian war correspondent Andrii Tsaplienko.
Russia recalled its old weapons, including T-62s, for use in the battle with Ukraine after it suffered huge equipment losses. The Т-62М and Т-62МV tanks were sent to Ukraine in May, as per reports. They were assigned to staff reserve battalion tactical groups that had been formed in preparation for deployment to Ukraine.
In 1962, the Object 165 tank was adopted by the Soviet Army under the designation Т-62А. The retrofitted version of Т-62 with a Sheksna system of guided weapons received the designation Т-62М.
The improved Т-62М with mounted reactive armor and without additional armored protection of the turret and hull received the designation Т-62МV.
During the Vostok-2018 exercises, the Russian military removed at least several dozen Т-62М and Т-62МV out from storage at the bases in Buryatia.
In 2021, Т-62МV tanks were spotted in the Southern Military District.
