China plans to strike air bases where America's latest bomber, the B-21 is located to overcome its superior stealth characteristics in the event of a conflict with Washington.
Chinese military experts quoted in the semi-official Chiniese publication, Global Times, pointed out that the B-21 has a shorter range and is smaller and lighter than the B-2, and uses only two engines instead of four. These result in decreases in range and payload capacity.
The Pentagon plans to order some 100 of these latest generation bombers which can sneak in behind enemy defenses and drop bombs from above the target rather than launching expensive missiles from a stand-off distance, the report in Global Times said.
"A large fleet of B-21s will pose new challenges to China's air defense, as they can launch sneak attacks from more directions, taking advantage of their stealth capabilities: not only from the West Pacific, but also from the South China Sea, and even territorial airspaces of Southeast and South Asian countries as well as countries in the Middle East, Chinese experts said.
In those sneak attacks, the US bombers could target Chinese command centers, bases, airfields and missile facilities, creating breaches in the anti-access and area denial systems of the Chinese military, they warned."
To counter the B-21s, China can attack the airfields from which the US bombers are based with own bombers, an unnamed 'expert' told Global Times.

What about China's H-20, Believed to be B-21's competitor?
Chinese media has repeatedly hinted that its arms industry is working on a stealth bomber designated as H-20, part of the '20' series of advanced warplanes. However so far there is official word of the existance of such a warplane.
Suggesting that Beijing is yet to build such a warplane, Chinese expert Zhang told Global Times, "China has whatever it takes to build a similar bomber to the B-21."
