Portugal is mulling over buying Turkish Bayraktar TB2 combat drones and has begun talks with Baykar, the company that produces them.
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said this during a press conference Monday with his Portuguese counterpart João Gomes Cravinho.
“Today we agreed to encourage our companies to invest together. We discussed cooperation in the defense industry. I also learned that negotiations between Baykar and Portugal have started,” Çavuşoğlu said.
The minister did not say how many drones Portugal intends to buy, or anything about the contract’s value.
Previously, 28 countries have already concluded contracts with Baykar for the purchase of Bayraktar TB2 drones.
Poland became the first European country to export Bayraktar TB2. Recently, Warsaw has received the first systems.
Italy is reportedly eyeing Turkish drones.
