Taiwan is making preparations to test the new Hsiung Sheng cruise missiles with a claimed range of 1,200km.

As per local media, this new surface-to-surface missile is an extended-range version of the Hsiung Feng IIE. It can strike targets up to 1,200km away, including Wuhan deep inside China or Qingdao in Shandong Province north along the coast.

Taiwan’s National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST) said it will test fire missiles from the Jiupeng base in Pingtung County on February 6-7, without mentioning the type. Military observers predicted it could be the latest variant of Hsiung Sheng.

Taiwan started producing Hsiung Sheng missiles last year, and it aims to produce 100 units by 2025.
