One Dead, Several Injured in Accident During Il-76MD-90A Fuselage Testing

One person died and scores more were injured in an accident that occured today when the fuselage of Russia's Il-76MD-90A heavy transport aircraft was being tested in the Avistar plant of United Aircraft Corporation (UAC).
"At the Aviastar plant, during the testing of the fuselage compartment of the aircraft, which is in production, a tragic incident occurred. Several employees of the enterprise were injured, one died," Interfax reported quoting UAC sources.
"Emergency services are working at the scene. The reasons for the incident are being established," the UAC said.
"At one of the assembly stages, the fuselage is checked for leaks by pumping excess pressure into the compartments. During these tests, a tragic incident occurred," the UAC said, adding that the details of the incident are still being specified.
Located in Ulyanovsk, Aviastar is part of the transport aviation division of the UAC, the head enterprise of which is PJSC Il, the plant specializes in the production of transport aircraft Il-76MD-90A (the second generation of Il-76), the creation on its basis of the Il-78M- 90A, as well as maintenance of An-124 Ruslan aircraft.
In addition, the plant produces passenger and cargo aircraft of the Tu-204 family, provides warranty and post-warranty maintenance of aircraft, installs interiors and tests systems for aircraft of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 family. Aviastar also participates in cooperation in the production of the MS-21 passenger aircraft.

The impact of the accident on other aviation projects is not known.
