Moscow Hit by Rare Drone Attack; Ukraine Blamed

Minor damages to several buildings were reported in Moscow after it was targeted by a rare drone attack Tuesday morning.

Confirming the attacks, Moscow's Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on Telegram that “all the city’s emergency services are on the scene.” He added, that “no one has been seriously injured so far.”

He said, "Two people sought medical attention. Nobody needed hospitalization, the necessary assistance was provided on the spot."

The Russian capital, located more than 1,000km from Ukraine, has only rarely been targeted by drone attacks since Russian invasion of the country.

Images posted on social media showed traces of smoke in the sky and buildings with broken windows.

Telegram channel Baza, which has good sources among Russia's security services, claimed around 25 drones attacked Moscow.

In early May, two drones were shot down over the Kremlin in an attack blamed on Ukraine.

Russia blames Ukraine for the attacks

Russia's defense ministry was quoted as saying by local media that the "Kyiv regime launched a terrorist drone attack on targets in the city of Moscow.”

Three drones were reportedly suppressed by electronic warfare, after which they lost control and deviated from their intended targets. Russia claims another five were shot down by the Pantsir-S missile systems.

Ukraine has not publicly acknowledged launching attacks against targets inside Russia.
