The lone IRIS-T SLM air defence system has achieved 100 % hit rate in Ukraine, even in waves of attack with more than 12 targets.
Its manufacturer, Diehl Defence made this claim while announcing the delivery of the second IRIS-T SLM system to Ukraine on May 25.
“The IRIS-T SLM system has demonstrated excellent performance in combat conditions since its commissioning in Ukraine. According to the customer, the system achieved a 100% hit rate even in waves of attack with more than 12 targets. The procurement of the system for the German Bundeswehr is also envisaged,” the company said in an official release.
Earlier this year, a Ukrainian soldier told Reuters, “Our air force commander said IRIS-T has hit 51 out of 51 targets; that’s a 100% quota for Shahed drones and cruise missiles.”
The commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk, said in a Telegram post on May 3 that a division of the IRIS-T systems had destroyed more than 60 hostile air targets over Ukraine since its delivery in October 2022.
For IRIS-T SLM, Diehl Defence is the general contractor and system integrator of all components; the company also supplies the launcher and the guided missiles. HENSOLDT provides the TRML-4D multi-functional radar. The Integrated Battle Management Software Fire Control (IBMS-FC) for the command post comes from Airbus.
IRIS-T SLX missile is currently under development with a further increase in performance to a range of up to 80 km and an altitude coverage of 30 km.
