Russia is working to double the production of air defense sysems such as the S-300 Favorit, S-400 Triumf, S-350 Vityaz at its Almaz-Antey plant due to growing demand for them.
This was revealed during the visit of Russian defense minister Sergei Shoigu to the St. Petersburg based plant, a Russian MoD release said.
The general director of the enterprise, was quoted as saying, “the creation of new production facilities will make it possible to double the capacity of the enterprise.”
Shoigu pointed to the need to shorten the timeframe for commissioning of the plant's new production facilities by synchronizing the installation of equipment and commissioning work. “I travel around the enterprises and see that sites are launched in two to three months...A machine is working at the same time, assembly is going on and the next one is being set up at the same time.”
The S-300 Favorit, S-400 Triumf, S-350 Vityaz have been deploying to take out aircraft and missiles in Ukraine. Shoigu said these systems “are in demand and demonstrate high efficiency within the special military operation.”
In addition, these systems have been upgraded based on battlefield experience.
The Russian MoD recently reported that the S-350 struck at a target while being operated in a fully automatic mode- that is it detected, tracked and fired a missile without any human intervention.
