Russian Troops Receive Modernized ‘Sani’ 120mm Mortar Systems

Rostec handed over another batch of modernized 120-mm mortar systems 2S12A "Sani" to the Russian troops as part of the state defense order in 2023.

The 2S12A "Sani" mortar complex was created to destroy the enemy with mounted fire, including in deep shelters and on the reverse slopes of hills. With its help, you can hit firing points, command posts, destroy trenches, trenches, make passages in barbed wire, illuminate the front line of defense, put up smoke screens. The mobility of the "Sled" allows them to be used as "roaming" mortars, when they are not located in platoons, but separately and constantly change positions. Thus, the enemy is misled about the system of fire and the number of available forces.

Rostec said it has doubled the production of Sani this year.

“The demand for it is high, and therefore we have increased its output. In 2023, the Ministry of Defense will receive twice as many of these mortar systems as compared to 2022. They are very much expected at the front,” said Bekhan Ozdoev, Industrial Director of the Cluster of Arms, Ammunition and Special Chemicals of Rostec.

The 2B11 mortar included in the Sani complex has a high rate of fire and accuracy of combat, the range of aimed fire is more than 7 kilometers. Thanks to an improved plate, the gun can carry out circular fire, and the quick-release firing mechanism does not require disassembly of the barrel when changing positions. The ammunition of the complex is designed for more than fifty shots. "Sled" can be used together with the "Gran" guided weapon system for high-precision target destruction.

The Sanei transport vehicle, created on the basis of the Ural off-road vehicle, is capable of moving without refueling for a distance of up to 1000 km both on roads and on rough terrain. The unloading of the mortar from the body is carried out by an electric winch, and the wheel travel facilitates its movement to the firing position by the calculation forces. Translation mortar from traveling to combat and back takes less than 3 minutes.
