Kongsberg Defense and Aerospace (KDA) and Navantia have extended their Memorandum of Understanding, initially established in 2022, to include joint collaboration in integrating the Naval Strike Missile (NSM) on Navantia-designed and built ships.
KDA, the designer and manufacturer of NSM missiles, will collaborate with Navantia on technical and industrial aspects. This partnership seeks to meet the requirements of both the Norwegian and Spanish Navies and provide benefits to international clients.
The first Memorandum of Understanding between KDA and Navantia was signed in March 2022 to explore joint collaboration in supporting the modernization of Navantia's Nansen-class F-310 frigates for the Royal Norwegian Navy. Since then, Navantia has been awarded various contracts by the Norwegian Ministry of Defense, including Configuration Audit, Feasibility Phase, and Significant Modifications for Norwegian frigates.
Furthermore, KDA has received confirmation that the Navy intends to replace the Harpoon missile with NSM upon its retirement from active service. The Navy also plans to equip both the F-100 class frigates and the new F-110 class frigates with NSM.
Under this extended Memorandum, the Spanish public company Navantia and Kongsberg, a 51% Norwegian public company, will promote joint collaboration on NSM missiles for current and future naval units. The primary goal is to provide optimal solutions for the Armed Forces of both Spain and Norway.
