Electromagnetic Catapult Tested on Chinese Aircraft Carrier Fujian

Chinese aircraft carrier Fujian tested an electromagnetic catapult, marking a pivotal stage before sea trials.

The test, captured in a video circulating on Chinese social networks, showcased the catapult launching a "dead load" comparable in weight to deck-based aircraft, assessing reliability and power. Scheduled to set sail next year, Fujian aims for commissioning in 2025.

The Fujian has become China's first carrier equipped with electromagnetic catapult. Unlike Liaoning and Shandong, which utilize springboards, Fujian's catapult enables the launch of heavier aircraft, such as AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System).

Recent reports suggest China is actively testing the KJ-600 long-range radar detection aircraft. While exact technical details are undisclosed, analysts estimate a 1,250-kilometer operational range and a 15-kilometer flight ceiling. The radar specifications remain confidential, but it's based on the KLC-7, whose export version was revealed in 2018.

The KJ-600 may not operate from existing carriers due to the absence of a catapult. Integrating it into Fujian would significantly enhance the carrier's capabilities and bolster its air group.
