The U.S. State Department has given its approval for a potential Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Romania, involving Javelin Missiles and associated equipment, at an estimated cost of $80 million.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has formally notified Congress of this prospective sale.

The requested items include 263 Javelin FGM-148F Missiles, 26 Javelin Light Weight Command Launch Units (LWCLU), and related equipment and support.

The prime contractors for this deal are identified as the Raytheon/Lockheed Martin Javelin Joint Venture, with operations based in Orlando, FL, and Tucson, AZ.

The joint venture concluded the production of the first F-Model of the Javelin missile in 2020. The FGM-148F model boasts an advanced multipurpose warhead designed to counter explosive-reactive armor and a fragmenting steel case for striking unarmored and lightly armored targets. Moreover, the new command launch unit is reported to feature reduced weight and an improved target tracker.

The advanced capabilities of the F-Model are said to provide warfighters with a tool capable of addressing a range of mission requirements without the need to switch between different rounds for distinct targets.
