Northrop Grumman Develops Mobile Ground Station for U.S. Navy and Marine Corps Advancements

Northrop Grumman has recently been awarded the Maritime Targeting Cell – Expeditionary (MTC-X) contract, a move aimed at contributing to the Department of Defense's Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2) mission.

The MTC-X mobile prototype system is intended to provide critical data to frontline units, ostensibly enhancing their capabilities and decision-making processes. In practical terms, the platform claims to ensure that forward-deployed units and individual warfighters operating far from established bases have access to multi-domain data.

This system is promoted as integrating data from various assets into a single mobile platform, with the goal of streamlining information for efficient use by commanders and warfighters. It is said to target a reduction in sensor-to-shooter timelines, thereby maximizing the efficiency of long-range precision fires and improving overall operational efficacy.

Additionally, the mobile prototype is designed for quick assembly, purportedly allowing for swift and agile maneuverability alongside ground forces to adapt to different mission scenarios.

According to Pablo Pezzimenti, Vice President of Integrated National Systems at Northrop Grumman, the platform is intended to place the latest multi-domain data at the disposal of commanders, allowing them to make decisions for missions on land, air, or sea.

The MTC-X mobile prototype is described as a modification to the existing Maritime Targeting Cell – Afloat (MTC-A) program's Indefinite Duration, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract. This modification is framed as supporting the U.S. Marine Corps Force Design 2030.
