Rheinmetall is testing their Boxer Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV) at Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedford, UK.
The company invested £40 million in their Telford site in January 2024.
The trials seek to validate the Boxer MIV's adherence to technical requirements for optimal performance in the British Army. Using two Rheinmetall prototypes, the tests will focus on mission systems, including communication, electronic countermeasures, user interface, electromagnetic compatibility, and climatic conditions, with support from ARTEC and KNDS. Specifically, the trials will evaluate the Command variant of the MIV design.
The first batch of production vehicles, set for delivery this year, is in the final assembly stage in Rheinmetall's factory in Kassel, Germany. Production of UK Boxer vehicles has also begun locally.
The Boxer is an 8x8 wheeled armored vehicle with different versions like Infantry Carrying Vehicle, Command & Control, Field Ambulance, and Specialist Carrier.
In 2019, the UK Ministry of Defence placed substantial orders for the Boxer 8x8 wheeled armored vehicle. The initial order consisted of 523 units, with a notable addition of 100 units in April 2022.
