AeroVironment, Inc. has delivered its new P550 small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) to the U.S. Army as part of the Long-Range Reconnaissance (LRR) program.
The initial delivery included multiple systems and training support to prepare Transformation in Contact brigades for operational use.
The P550 is AeroVironment’s latest Group 2 vertical take-off and landing drone, designed with a Modular Open Systems Approach for quick reconfiguration on the battlefield. It can carry up to 15 pounds of payload, remain airborne for five hours on battery power, and has a maximum take-off weight of 55 pounds. The system allows hot-swapping of batteries and payloads without tools in under five minutes.
The company said deliveries included new equipment training led by field service representatives, followed by train-the-trainer sessions for Army Master Trainers to speed up operational integration. Additional deliveries are planned to meet evolving Army requirements.
