General Dynamics Land Systems announced the completion of testing for its Advanced Reconnaissance Vehicle (ARV), a development aimed at serving as the Marine Corps' primary asset on the mobile and multi-domain battlefield.
The testing phase, conducted from January to November 2023, spanned various locations including the Nevada Automotive Test Center (NATC), U.S. Army Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland, and Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California.
The ARV, positioned as the Marine Corps' "quarterback," is designed to connect to a range of sensors, uncrewed aerial systems (UAS), and potential future robotic systems. The vehicle incorporates the company's Next Generation Electronic Architecture, facilitating artificial intelligence functionality and robotic system control.
Throughout 2023, Marine Corps-directed tests and demonstrations covered Command, Control, Communications, and Computer/Uncrewed Aerial Systems (C4/UAS), land and water mobility, blast and kinetic tests, as well as cyber and electromagnetic interference assessments.
An integral part of the testing involved ocean swim mobility and surf zone transition in littoral beach areas. The company integrated next-generation swim propulsion, vectored thrust, and water safety systems to support swim operations in anticipated Marine Corps operational environments globally.
Marines from Light Armored Reconnaissance (LAR) units actively participated in the testing, providing valuable feedback.
