Ukraine anticipates a formidable upgrade to its defense capabilities as it prepares to receive a fleet of F-16 fighter jets equipped with advanced missiles boasting a range of 300-500 kilometers.
The announcement was made by Lieutenant General Serhii Naev, the commander of the United Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as per RBC-Ukraine.
"Ukraine is waiting for F-16 aircraft and missiles with a range of 300-500 kilometers in further military aid packages," he said.
The F-16s, part of a coalition spearheaded by the Netherlands and Denmark, symbolize the unwavering support of Western allies in fortifying Ukraine against potential threats. General Naev emphasized the strategic significance of these reinforcements, describing them as pivotal to enhancing the nation's defense capabilities.
Yuriy Ignat, spokesperson for the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, confirmed the Pentagon's commitment to delivering the first batch of F-16s later this year. Ignat stressed the importance of completing preparatory work before the transfer takes place.
This development occurs against the backdrop of ongoing consultations between Paris and Kyiv regarding the potential delivery of Mirage-2000D multirole fighters. Equipped with the SCALP-EG missile system and supersonic ASMP, these aircraft are poised to further enhance Ukraine's military capabilities in the region.
Details obtained from the Russian Arms Telegram Page indicate that the F-16A/B aircraft bound for Ukraine will be equipped with tactical missiles, including the Storm Shadow, SCALP-EG, AGM-158A JASSM, and AGM-154C JSOW-ER. These missiles, with ranges varying from 370 to 500 kilometers, boast low radar cross-sections, making them elusive targets for anti-aircraft missiles. Operating at low altitudes ranging from 70 to 20 meters, depending on the terrain, these stealth cruise missiles add a layer of sophistication to Ukraine's military capabilities.
