Rostec Launches Production of SJ-100's PD-8 Engine Blades from Latest Heat-Resistant Alloys

Rostec’s subsidiary, United Engine Corporation (UEC), has initiated the production of heat-resistant blades for the PD-8 engine, capable of withstanding exceptionally high loads.

The components are being manufactured at the Rybinsk enterprise "ODK-Saturn" in an innovative foundry complex using the latest heat-resistant nickel alloys, developed in collaboration with scientists from the National Research Center "Kurchatov Institute" - VIAM.

The alloys, totaling five in number, were specifically designed for various elements of the PD-8 engine intended for short-haul aircraft SJ-100. This includes highly loaded working and nozzle blades of turbines for both low and high pressure. Rostec boasts that these alloys adhere to international standards concerning chemical composition stability, residual impurity levels, and mechanical properties.

The Chief Engineer of UEC-Saturn, Igor Ilyin, stated that the casting alloys developed have facilitated the implementation of advanced characteristics desired by designers into the power plant. Ilyin emphasized that the introduction of new materials did not require a reconstruction of the production chain. Furthermore, he suggested that these alloys, proven to withstand necessary loads, could be utilized in the development of future gas turbine engine models.
