The U.S. Navy has granted Boeing a $3.4 billion contract for the production of 14 P-8A Poseidon aircraft, intended for the Royal Canadian Air Force, along with an additional three P-8s for the German Navy.
In November 2023, Canada officially declared its decision to acquire the P-8A Poseidon, earmarking it as a replacement for the existing CP-140 Auroras. The initial P-8A for Canada is slated for delivery in 2026.
Boeing's commitment to Canada, facilitated through the P-8 acquisition, is anticipated to yield annual economic benefits of over 3,000 jobs for Canadian industry and value-chain partners. Moreover, it is projected to contribute at least $358 million to Canada's gross domestic product over the next decade.
The consortium responsible for Canada's Team Poseidon comprises CAE, GE Aviation Canada, IMP Aerospace & Defence, KF Aerospace, Honeywell Aerospace Canada, Raytheon Canada, and StandardAero.
Following the procurement of five P-8 aircraft in June 2021, Germany opted to acquire three more, bringing the total P-8 count for the German Navy to eight. The initial delivery for Germany is scheduled for 2025, with the aim of replacing the existing fleet of P-3 Orions.
In Germany, Boeing has forged partnerships with ESG Elektroniksystem-und Logistik-GmbH and Lufthansa Technik to undertake systems integration, training, support, and sustainment work.
