A Russian Il-76 transport plane crashed in the Ivanovo region near the Severny airfield.

According to preliminary information, one of the plane’s engines caught fire in the sky and then began a sharp descent.

Eyewitness videos show fire in one of the engines.

According to  telegram channels, the plane made an emergency landing two kilometers short of the airport. At the same time, the pilots managed to steer the plane away from residential buildings.

According to official sources speaking to local media, the cause of the disaster was a fire in one of the engines during takeoff of the plane. A commission from the Main Command of the Russian Aerospace Forces flew to the Ivanovo airfield.

Some reports say that  None of the Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile systems could cover this region due to its remoteness from the line of combat contact. This is probably a technical malfunction of the fuel system.

During the flight, the aircraft “dropped” the damaged engine; During landing, the fuselage collapsed into large segments.

After the engine caught fire, the crew attempted to make an emergency landing back on the runway, but were unable to do so.

According to updated data, there were 12 people on board - 7 crew members and 5 passengers. All are reported dead.
