The first Bell AH-1Z Viper set to undergo the Structural Improvement Electrical Power Upgrade (SIEPU) modification has arrived at Bell's Amarillo Assembly Center.
SIEPU modifications aim to optimize the AH-1Z Viper by increasing its electrical power capacity, enhancing aircrew safety, and improving interoperability. These upgrades are intended to support the integration of additional cabin capabilities, contributing to the aircraft's mission capabilities.
The SIEPU modification enables H-1 helicopters to integrate current weapons systems with advanced capabilities, including kinetic long-range munitions and air-launched effects, as well as new non-kinetic capabilities. These enhancements are expected to extend the aircraft's reach and range while enhancing standoff distance.
Prior to reaching the Bell Amarillo Assembly Center, the AH-1Z and UH-1Y underwent datalink capabilities testing with Marine Corps modifications at Camp Pendleton and testing with VMX-1 in Yuma.
Bell intends to continue supporting the AH-1Z Viper and UH-1Y Venom through the 2040s, aligning with the Marine Corps Aviation Plan.
