Turkey has placed an order for a dozen Hurjet Block-1 aircraft with Turkish Aerospace Industries.
"In addition to the 4 Block-0 aircraft previously contracted between our Presidency and TAI, we are including 12 Block-1 aircraft in the scope,” Haluk GÖRGÜN, President of the Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB), was quoted as saying by SavunmaSanayiST.com.
With this contract amendment, the delivery of 12 serial aircraft within the Block-1 phase will be formalized into a firm order. Aircraft delivery dates will be expedited by one year.
The Hürjet is designed to be a fifth-generation training aircraft. The project was initiated by TAI in 2017 and is expected to undertake its maiden flight in 2023. The aircraft will feature an advanced mission computer in its modern cockpit, superior radar and precision attack systems, as well as air and ground communication capabilities.
The Hürjet will measure 13.4m in length with an 11m wingspan and will offer enhanced environmental security in offensive operations. It is capable of reaching a maximum altitude of 45,000 feet (14km), carrying a payload of up to 3,000kg, and achieving a maximum speed of Mach 1.2. This jet will replace Turkey’s fleet of T-38 trainer aircraft, which consists of 70 aircraft.
