Raytheon, a business unit of RTX, has commenced a $115 million expansion of its Redstone Raytheon Missile Integration Facility located in Huntsville, Alabama.

The expansion project will add 26,000 square feet to the facility, increasing its capacity for integrating and delivering critical defense programs by more than 50%.

This expansion is expected to create approximately 185 new jobs in the Huntsville area, expanding RTX's employee base in Alabama to over 2,200 individuals.

"(The facility) will ready our operations to accelerate delivery of our vital counter-hypersonic solution,” Phil Jasper, President of Raytheon, said.

The Redstone facility currently serves as a key integration point for various missile programs for the U.S. Missile Defense Agency and U.S. Navy. It handles integration for multiple variants of the Standard Missile family, including Standard Missile-3 and Standard Missile-6, and will accommodate new defense programs such as the Glide Phase Interceptor (GPI).

GPI will be the first-ever interceptor to defeat the emerging threat of hypersonic glide vehicles in their vulnerable glide phase of flight. With the expansion of our Missile Integration Facility at Redstone, Raytheon is demonstrating its ability and commitment to continued GPI development.

The expansion project is scheduled for completion in 2025. The Redstone Raytheon Missile Integration Facility was initially established in 2012.
