Kurganmashzavod, a division of Rostec’s High-Precision Complexes holding company, has delivered a fresh batch of upgraded BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) to Russian troops, featuring the new 'Cape' camouflage system, alongside BMD-4M airborne combat vehicles.

The company's experts analyzed operational feedback from recent military engagements to refine the BMP-3. The latest batch of vehicles, known as “troikas,” now come equipped with standard sets of additional protection, upper hemisphere defense systems, and 'capes' designed to reduce visibility.

The added protection shields the vehicle from side attacks at any angle, while the upper hemisphere defense guards against threats like air-dropped cumulative ammunition. The third line of defense, the 'capes,' are crafted from synthetic heat-insulating and radio-absorbing materials to obscure the vehicle's visibility. This feature makes it challenging for adversaries to detect the IFV using specialized equipment such as thermal imagers.

“Rostec manufactures a diverse array of weapons and military equipment, including upgraded BMD-4M airborne combat vehicles and BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles. Today, Kurganmashzavod dispatched a new batch of vehicles to the troops, fortified with enhanced protection. In addition to reinforced armor, the BMP-3s now boast 'capes'—fire-resistant coverings that minimize the vehicle's detectability in thermal and radio spectrums. These advancements have notably bolstered the combat resilience of our equipment,” remarked Bekhan Ozdoev, Industrial Director of the Conventional Weapons and Special Chemicals Cluster at the Rostec State Corporation.

In April, Kurganmashzavod expedited the production of supplementary protection kits for the BMP-2, including anti-cumulative grilles and armored screens, ahead of schedule.
