Aircrew members from the French (Armée de l’Air) and German (Luftwaffe) air forces have completed joint training as the first-ever binational C-130J Super Hercules squadron.
The training took place at the France Germany Multinational Training Center (FGMTC), a facility developed by Lockheed Martin in partnership with the French Direction générale de l'armement (DGA) and the German Federal Ministry of Defence.
The FGMTC, built under a direct commercial sale contract with France’s DGA, includes training devices, a learning management system, and courseware, with options for additional training services. Construction began in 2021, and the building design and construction were managed by the French contractor Patriarche.
The squadron operates 10 C-130J Super Hercules aircraft, with six from Germany and four from France. Germany's fleet includes three C-130J-30s and three KC-130Js, while France has two C-130J-30 airlifters and two KC-130J tankers. This is the first and only binational C-130J squadron in Hercules history.
This establishment marks the first formal business relationship between Lockheed Martin and France’s DGA. The in-country training allows France and Germany to qualify and sustain their C-130J aircrew and maintenance personnel efficiently, supporting NATO missions.
