Rostec, the Russian state corporation, has supplied the Russian troops with a new batch of 152-mm Malva self-propelled wheeled howitzers.
These artillery units are designed to be more maneuverable than tracked artillery mounts.
The Malva is built on the BAZ chassis with an 8x8 wheel arrangement. It has a minimum ammunition capacity of 30 rounds and can travel up to 1,000 km without refueling on public roads. The vehicle's all-wheel drive and powerful diesel engine allow it to navigate off-road conditions.
One notable feature of the Malva is its ability to be transported by military transport aircraft, such as the Il-76, making it suitable for rapid deployment over long distances. Additionally, compared to towed guns, the wheeled design allows for quicker deployment, departure, and target acquisition.
Bekhan Ozdoev, the industrial director of the cluster of conventional weapons, ammunition, and special chemicals at Rostec, highlighted the Malva's capabilities. He noted its ability to engage targets with high-explosive fragmentation shells at ranges exceeding 24 km and its automated calculation of firing parameters for all types of ammunition. Ozdoev also mentioned the "simultaneous fire attack" mode, which allows for coordinated strikes on targets through multiple trajectories simultaneously.
