Airbus, Aena, Air Nostrum, Iberia, Exolum, and Repsol have announced a collaboration to explore the establishment of Spain's first hydrogen airport hub.
This initiative aims to address the challenges involved in deploying hydrogen-powered aviation within the country.
The partnership marks a first in bringing together the entire value chain necessary for hydrogen-powered flight, encompassing primary energy production, hydrogen ground operations, and involvement from two major airlines across multiple airports simultaneously.
The project seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of integrating hydrogen-powered aircraft into airport ecosystems. Key areas of focus include hydrogen supply chain logistics, infrastructure development, and specific requirements for ground operations at airports. The ultimate objective is to facilitate the growth of a sustainable hydrogen aviation ecosystem throughout Spain.
Airbus has initiated the “Hydrogen Hub at Airports'' program, expanding hydrogen infrastructure globally. The initiative includes partnerships in 13 countries, reflecting a concerted effort towards sustainable aviation.
