Russia has completed tests of its heavy sea drone "Vizir" and will use it in its war against Ukraine soon.

The 7 meter long and 2.5 meter wide drone is operated both by an artificial intelligence based on-board "pilot" as well as a shore or ship based homan operator.

Its payloads include reconnaissance devices, short range missiles as well as light and heavy machine guns.

The "Vizir" drone can reach speeds of up to 45 km/h, has a range of 270 miles, operates safely in rough seas and strong winds, and is reusable, returning to its starting point after missions. It can transport sonar equipment and echo sounders for area surveys, as well as electronic warfare systems and netting to neutralize intercepted enemy drones. Additionally, the ship can deploy its drone and approach targets within visual range.

All components of the drone are domestically produced, from the engine to the control system.

Military expert Yuri Lyamin stated that unmanned boats, particularly kamikaze and reconnaissance vessels, are gaining popularity due to their easier mass production and reduced risk if damaged. Despite high development costs, their key advantage is the elimination of risk to human crews, he told Izvestia.
