The U.S. State Department has approved a potential Foreign Military Sale to Egypt, involving 720 Stinger missiles and associated logistics and program support, with an estimated cost of $740 million.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has officially notified Congress of this proposed sale.
The Egyptian government could use the Stinger missiles on existing vehicle-based Avenger systems. This order includes 20 Product Verification Flight Test (PVFT) munitions, as well as spare and repair parts, testing equipment, and U.S. government and contractor support services.
The principal contractor for this sale will be RTX Corporation, based in Tucson, Arizona.
The Stinger missiles, primarily designed for shoulder-fired use, will be mounted on vehicles equipped with the Avenger launcher system, enhancing mobility and firepower against airborne threats, including enemy aircraft and drones.
This announcement follows the recent release of $1.3 billion in military aid to Egypt, with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken waiving certain human rights conditions tied to the aid.
