Chinese Coast Guard, Military Surround Taiwan, Taipei Vows Response

The Chinese Coast Guard (CCG) today encircled Taiwan while its military conducted land, sea and air drills enforcing an effective blockade of the Island even as Taipei vowed to defend its sovereignty.

“The China Coast Guard's 2901 formation, 1305 formation, 1303 formation and 2102 formation carried out law enforcement patrols in the waters around the Taiwan Island on October 14th, which is a practical action to manage and control the Taiwan Island according to the one-China principle,” said Liu Dejun, spokesperson for the China Coast Guard (CCG), on Monday morning.

In addition, PLA Eastern Theater Command has announced joint military exercises in the surrounding waters and airspace near Taiwan.

In response, the Republic of China (Taiwan) Armed Forces said it “strongly condemn the PLA’s irrational and provocative actions and will deploy appropriate forces to respond and defend our national sovereignty.”

A statement from the Taiwan Ministry of National Defense said today that it has "dispatched appropriate troops to respond in accordance with the "Regulations on the Disposal of Emergency Situations During the Period of Regular Combat Readiness of the National Army" and has taken practical actions.

The Ministry of National Defense stressed that "increasing cross-strait tensions and undermining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait "are actually the Communist Party of China (CCP)'s various irrational and provocative actions. It has also continued to use intimidation, deterrence and other means to shrink our international living space.

In the face of enemy threats, all officers and soldiers of the country are ready to fight, adhering to the strong will of "prepare for war without asking for war, respond to war without avoiding war."
