Ukrainian Sea King helicopters will receive new weapons from Great Britain and Germany under a bilateral program of defense cooperation.
"In the short term, we will fully provide Ukraine with new defense capabilities, we will equip the Sea King helicopters handed over by Germany with modern missile systems," it was stated in a joint communique.
Germany had announced the allocation of six Sea King Mk41 multipurpose helicopters to Ukraine in January this year. The German side also provided training for the Ukrainian military.
Potentially, the helicopters can be armed with the latest Brimstone 2 missiles from MBDA, according to Ukrainian media. Their range exceeds 40 kilometers, and the weight of the warhead is 6.3 kg.
Ukraine's helicopter fleet has been nearly decimated in 2 years of war giving Russia's helicopter fleet a free run in short-range air-to-ground capability.
