Patria and the Latvian Ministry of Defence have signed an agreement for the production and delivery of 56 additional Patria 6x6 armoured vehicles, designated as command and control (C2) units.
This expands the deliveries already underway as part of the multinational Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) programme.
The production will incorporate Latvia's local industry, including Patria’s Valmiera facility, inaugurated in May 2024. Deliveries are scheduled to commence this year and continue through 2029. The agreement is valued at over €60 million.
Latvian Defence Minister Andris Sprūds highlighted the importance of the vehicles in bolstering the nation's defence capabilities and supporting the Latvian defence industry. Mats Warstedt, Patria’s Senior Vice President, noted Latvia’s position as the first customer for the new C2 vehicle variant, emphasizing the cost-efficiency and collaborative benefits of the CAVS programme.
The CAVS programme, which involves Finland, Latvia, Sweden, and Germany, facilitates joint armoured vehicle development and manufacturing. Since its inception in late 2020, it has delivered vehicles to Latvia, Finland, and Sweden, with over 750 Patria 6x6 vehicles ordered to date. The programme encourages participation from other European nations with similar equipment needs, leveraging local industry for production to enhance regional security.
This agreement underscores Latvia's commitment to strengthening its armed forces while fostering industrial development through collaborative defence initiatives.
