Montenegro has signed a contract to purchase two offshore patrol vessels (OPV 60M) from French shipbuilder Kership to strengthen its naval capabilities.

The agreement, reached during the Euronaval trade fair, follows a defense cooperation agreement signed on April 3, 2024, in Paris by Montenegro’s Minister of Defense and France’s Minister of Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs.

These 60-meter patrol vessels are designed to carry out various maritime security missions, including policing and anti-trafficking operations. They also have the capacity to deploy special forces, drones, and other autonomous equipment, expanding Montenegro’s operational range at sea.

Support for the contract is overseen by France’s General Directorate of Armaments (DGA), which will monitor quality and manage contract terms in partnership with the Montenegrin Ministry of Defense's Logistics Directorate.
