Rheinmetall and ICEYE to Boost Ukraine's Satellite Surveillance Capability

Rheinmetall and the Finnish SAR satellite company ICEYE have expanded their collaboration to provide Ukraine with advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite imagery.

The agreement, signed in September 2024, comes at a crucial time as Ukraine continues to face intense military pressures and seeks enhanced intelligence tools to support its armed forces.

The partnership, supported by the German government, is designed to meet Ukraine's urgent need for high-resolution, weather-independent reconnaissance data.

Since early October 2024, Ukrainian forces have begun receiving fresh satellite imagery from ICEYE’s fleet, which will complement existing intelligence sources and assist in strategic decision-making and operational planning.

This new data will be particularly valuable in surveillance, target acquisition, and battlefield positioning, offering Ukraine an edge in ongoing operations.

Under the deal, Rheinmetall has secured exclusive rights to market ICEYE’s SAR satellite services to military and government users in both Germany and Hungary.

Meanwhile, ICEYE’s growing constellation of 38 satellites will provide dedicated access to Ukrainian forces, ensuring they can continue to receive critical real-time intelligence regardless of weather conditions or time of day.

ICEYE's satellites are uniquely capable of delivering high-resolution images in all conditions, including through cloud cover and at night, a vital advantage for military reconnaissance.

The company's involvement with Ukraine dates back to 2022, when it began providing SAR data through a contract with the Serhiy Prytula Charity Foundation and later signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence in 2024.
