Denmark has committed to sending CAESAR artillery to Ukraine and increasing its defense support in 2024.
The Danish government will allocate additional funds to purchase defense equipment for Ukraine, increasing the industrial pool and involving Danish defense companies in the effort. "The defense industry has demonstrated its ability to meet Ukraine's urgent needs, and the government will now increase the industrial pool to finalize contracts before the year ends," Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen said.
This funding boost supplements the existing DKK 2.6 billion (~$380 million) already allocated to the industrial pool. In addition, Denmark, in cooperation with France, will expedite the delivery of CAESAR artillery systems to Ukraine. Initially scheduled for 2026, the artillery will now be delivered as early as 2025 to address Ukraine's pressing needs.
“The war in Ukraine is at a critical stage. It is crucial that we support Ukraine as much as possible,” stated Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen. He urged other European nations to follow Denmark's lead in bolstering Ukraine’s defense.
From 2022 to 2028, Denmark has committed a total of approximately DKK 52.7 billion (~$7.8 billion) in military support for Ukraine, including both funds from the National Compromise and the Ukraine Fund. Around DKK 15 billion (~$2.2 billion) remains in the reserve for future military support, with adjustments in the 2024 budget still under review.
