The Swedish Riksdag passed the Total Defence Bill for 2025–2030, allocating SEK 170 billion ($16.4 billion) to military defense and SEK 35.7 billion to civil defense.

This initiative aims to enhance Sweden's total defense capabilities in response to global threats, including cyberattacks and hybrid warfare. By 2028, defense expenditures will account for 2.6% of Sweden’s GDP.

The plan includes the creation of four new brigades, an increase in conscripts, and the procurement of military equipment. The Swedish Armed Forces will receive new cruise missiles, anti-ship missiles, and rocket artillery, alongside updates to combat vehicles, tanks, and anti-aircraft systems. The Navy’s capabilities will be boosted by the modification of Visby-class corvettes and the introduction of new Luleå-class surface combat vessels.

In the Air Force, Sweden plans to procure three S106 Globaleye reconnaissance planes, additional Black Hawk helicopters, and introduce JAS Gripen 39E fighter aircraft. Civil defense funding will also increase to improve the nation’s resilience against various threats.

The bill reflects Sweden's broader security strategy, which includes maintaining territorial integrity, supporting NATO allies, and addressing climate-related risks. The government emphasizes the importance of continuous investment in defense and societal resilience to ensure national security through 2035.
