The Pentagon has announced a modification contract valued at $1.24 billion to Sikorsky for UH-60M aircraft.
The estimated completion date for the work is Dec. 31, 2027. Fiscal 2025 Foreign Military Sales funds in the amount of $1.24 billion for Australia, Brazil, Greece, Sweden, and Thailand were obligated at the time of the award, the Pentagon said in an official release.
As of October 2024, the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter fleets for Australia, Brazil, Greece, Sweden, and Thailand include various configurations and quantities.
The Australian Army has ordered 40 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters, with deliveries currently underway. In a statement today, Australia’s defense ministry said, “Army is rapidly bringing its fleet of UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters in to service, with the aircraft and crew flying more than 1,400 hours in support of introduction into service activities since the aircraft’s arrival in 2023.” 10 UH-60M Black Hawks have been delivered to Australia since August 2023, with a further two aircraft scheduled for delivery in November 2024. All 40 aircraft are due to be delivered by 2030. The fleet is on track to achieve an initial operational capability in the coming months, the ministry said.
In Brazil, the Brazilian Air Force operates 16 UH-60L Black Hawk helicopters, received between 2006 and 2013. Furthermore, in May 2024, the U.S. State Department approved a potential sale of 12 UH-60M Black Hawks to Brazil, valued at $950 million.
In Greece, the government signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance in April 2024 for 35 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters, aimed at replacing the aging Huey fleet of the Hellenic Army Aviation. Meanwhile, the Swedish Armed Forces currently operate 15 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters. In July 2024, Sweden signed a contract to purchase an additional 12 UH-60M helicopters, which will increase its total fleet to 27.
Lastly, the Royal Thai Army's Aviation Center operates a fleet consisting of nine UH-60L, three UH-60M, and three refurbished UH-60A Black Hawk helicopters, amounting to a total of 15 aircraft.
