The U.S. Army has awarded L3Harris Technologies nearly $300 million in full-rate production orders for Manpack and Leader radios under the Handheld, Manpack & Small Form Fit (HMS) program.
These orders are part of an ongoing effort to enhance the Army's communication systems with resilient solutions for U.S. soldiers, enabling interoperability from the tactical edge to aerial platforms across various operational environments, including those affected by electronic warfare.
L3Harris’ radios, such as the AN/PRC-158 and AN/PRC-163, provide a modern cryptographic solution, capable of switching between Secure But Unclassified – Encrypted (SBU-E) and high-assurance encryption levels. This functionality ensures compatibility with coalition partners and meets the latest NSA encryption and decryption standards for Communications Security and Transmission Security.
This latest award follows similar production orders from 2023, amounting to over $247 million under the same Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contracts. Additionally, L3Harris was selected to provide Mobile User Objective System-capable radios for the Army’s MQ-1C Gray Eagle unmanned aircraft systems and CH-47 Chinook rotary-wing fleet as part of the Air-to-Ground Networking Radio program.
