Turkish TUSAS has offered its Aksungar long endurance drone to the U.S. for reconnaissance of the Mexican border at a time when the Trump administration is deporting illegal migrants and trying to prevent new ones from coming in.
“We recommended the Aksungur UAV to the USA to protect the Mexican border. This system, which can stay in the air for two days, can be an effective solution,” TUSAŞ General Manager Mehmet Demiroglu was quoted as saying to the Turkish Media.
While the U.S. military has a variety of drones at its disposal, the Aksungar has an advantage in terms of a lower acquisition cost for similar types of long endurance drones with sensors that can spot human activity in day or night condition.
The offer to the U.S. is part of Turkey attempt to increase from $7.2 Billion in 2024 to $12 Billion in 2025.
As part of this initiative, it is also eyeing the supply of its ATAK helicopters to Germany, though no offer has been made so far.
