Damen Shipyards Group has introduced a new range of logistics support ships (LSS) designed to extend the operational reach of naval forces by providing logistical support.
The new LSS series consists of two variants, the LSS 9000 and LSS 11000, measuring 127 meters and 140 meters in length, respectively. These vessels will support modern naval operations by facilitating the transfer of fuel, munitions, provisions, personnel, and other essential supplies, enabling fleets to remain deployed far from their home ports for extended periods.
Damen has equipped the LSS with NATO-standard replenishment at sea (RAS) technology, roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) capabilities, and substantial cargo capacity. The ships will feature modern navigation and communication systems to ensure operational safety and efficiency. Their modular design allows for rapid configuration to meet various mission requirements, including disaster relief, humanitarian assistance, and training exercises.
The LSS is designed to operate in both open ocean and littoral waters, utilizing a combination of military and commercial-standard technology to enhance reliability while reducing operating (OPEX) and capital (CAPEX) costs. The vessels will incorporate propulsion systems aimed at reducing fuel consumption and emissions, aligning with the sustainability goals of many navies.
